I always enjoy this artist's books so much. This is the first Christmas one I've seen from him and its absolutely fantastic! Besides all the festive images and tiny homes there are some great characters in here. Mr. Fogerty the frog is one of my favorites, and in here he is visited by an unexpected houseguest! I know its the typical Amazon create space paper and some might not like it, but for me its just fine. I did manage to figure out that colored pencils that are NOT super waxy work best. I also used some gel pen and had no bleed thru, but I don't think you could say the same about markers. Anyway, thanks to the artist for coming out with this terrific coloring book!

This book is a recent acquisition for me. I have poured over it 5 times…torn as to whether I should indulge myself and keep it, color it & build the village or give somebody else that delight. The drawings are rendered in a warm and witty style the likes of which I have seen only once before in the work of an old friend. The assembly instructions for the village are well done! It’s a “fun build” & there’s a holiday Lego tradition at our house. My favorite illustration is The Night Before. This is my first purchase from R.J. Sampson and this book doesn’t disappoint. The cover and backing have such a nice feeling and are extremely visually pleasing. The inside takes the colorist on a Christmas journey including the name of the picture you are coloring. There’s something within this sweet coloring book for every person to color. Not too much detail but just enough to get your creativity stirring. The real treat is the Christmas Village to color and build in the second half of the book, complete with instructions. I also believe there are videos to help as well for the people that learn better visually. What a great addition and so very creative. The very back includes a color palette with plenty of room to test out your colors ahead of time. The paper is on the thin side, but if you’re like me you can use your own printer & paper which will work especially well to build the village. This book is a must for any coloring book collector.
